SaveWCAL was founded in August 2004 by supporters of public radio. We oppose the pending sale of the station's broadcast license to Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), and advocate that Classical 89.3 WCAL continue to be an independently-owned and listener-supported station. We also request that Saint Olaf College - the current owner of WCAL's broadcasting license - engage WCAL listener-members in a dialogue about the station's future before allowing the pending sale to MPR to close.

To date, Saint Olaf College has not responded to this request, and continues to keep Classical 89.3 WCAL's current members outside the decisionmaking process. Until they are willing to engage the station's members, who have donated funds for 85 years to create this valuable asset for the college, we will continue to volunteer on their behalf to secure their collective voice in this process.

SaveWCAL has incorporated under the Minnesota Nonprofit Corporation Act and is filing Application for Recognition of Exemption Under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
